FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Go back to the index page
Q. Can
you send me a catalog?
A. Why, the www.suspension.com online catalog is more complete
and up to date than anything Energy Suspension or AirLift have published,
and it has prices. If you want a paper catalog, hit your print key, or call Energy
Suspension or AirLift.
Q. Can
you get bushings from other manufacturers?
A. Yes, but Energy Suspension has the best coverage for cars
in the U.S.A.
We would like to offer more urethane bushings for imports and if we can
find a good source we will announce this on the 'Whats New' page.
Q. What
does each part number contain?
A. A 'set' will include all bushings for the left and right side
of the vehicle.
For instance, the #3-3101
set is a control arm bushing set for Chevrolet Camaro. There are 8 bushings
in the set, 4 for the right side and 4 for the left side. This set includes
upper and lower control arm bushings. If the car did not have upper
control arm bushings, a footnote would be included with the part number
saying 'lowers only', and then you would receive either 2 or 4 lower control
arm bushings, depending on the application.
A 'pair'
will be all the necessary parts for both sides of the application. i.e.
sway bar frame bushings, sway bar end link assembly. Because of the
variety of different sizes available for all applications, it is necessary
for us to offer these parts in pairs.
Q. Why don't the hyper flex master sets include sway bar frame
bushings in every set?
A. Because the manufacturer of your car offered several different
diameter sizes of sway bars for your car when it was sold. You
will have to measure the diameter of your sway bar and purchase the
sway bar frame bushings separately. Measure the diameter with a caliper
or use an open end wrench to find the diameter. If you do not have these
then use a adjustable crescent wrench and measure across the opening of
the wrench jaws to determine the diameter.
Q. Can't you just look
up in a book what the sway bar diameter is on my car?
A. There are no books,
if there were, we would not trust them. There
were to many sway bar sizes available for all the different suspension
combinations offered by car makers. When your American car or truck
was going down the assembly line and the worker who was responsible for
installing the sway bar, turned around to grab a sway bar, if he grabbed
the wrong size, he did not always stop and find the right one, he just
put it on the car/truck because another one was coming and he had to get
on with his job. If you are the second owner of your vehicle, who is to
say the past owner couldn't have changed the sway bar diameter for some
reason. All we want, is to be sure you are getting the right diameter of
sway bar bushing, please measure the sway bar before ordering(do not measure
the rubber sway bar bushing). If possible use a caliper, if that is not
available then use an adjustable wrench(crescent wrench), or grab some open
end wrenches and see which one fits the tightest over the sway bar.
Q. Do
all of the Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings contain 'graphite'
to stop squeaks?
A. No, only the BLACK polyurethane bushings can contain 'graphite'.
If graphite was used in the red, yellow or blue bushings it would make
them gray in color. Graphite is included in the black bushings to help with the
squeak problem that urethane can have. The newest 'Hyper flex' formula
is designed to decrease the possibility of squeaks even further. Strut
rod bushings, body mounts and motor mounts do not use graphite, because
they are a compression type bushing and the graphite would affect the bushings
ability to rebound when compressed, and compression type bushings do not
squeak.
Q. I am working on a special
project of my own design, can you supply me with the engineering drawings
of Energy Suspension bushings, so I can see if they make anything that
will work on my project?
A. You can send your required dimensions to Energy Suspension,
so they can determine if they make a bushings for your application. They
will not release engineering data(this is secret stuff, hush-hush you know
007). E.S. is worried you will steal their designs. Seriously! You
can look at our web page www.suspension.com/4-bar.htm
for
custom applications. Recently Energy Suspension offered us the
dimensions to the 2000 series bushings, so that we can find bushings
for special projects. We also posted a new Body Mount bushing page.
Q. Do the Graphite Impregnated
polyurethane bushings cost more than the other polyurethane bushings?
A. No.
Q. I have heard that
polyurethane control arm bushings will cause my car to ride 'rough'
or stiff.
A. This is false. The control arm bushings is a pivot bushing mounted close to
the frame rail. It just allows the control arm to pivot up an down and
the polyurethane does not allow the control arm to twist and allow camber
or caster deflection changes that rubber bushings will allow. The reason
people say that their car rides stiffer or rough, is usually because they
also replaced the shock absorbers with a stiffer gas shock when they
are rebuilt the suspension. Stiffer springs will also cause the car to
ride stiffer. Polyurethane bushings are stiffer than rubber and they
could transmit some road vibration to the frame, but first consider the
shocks and springs, they are usually a bigger culprit than the polyurethane
bushings. We will admit that polyurethane sway bar end link grommets are
stiffer than rubber and they will transmit some road vibrations from the
control arm into the sway bar and frame. But, think about the benefits of
additional control polyurethane bushings and grommets will give you, and
the slightly stiffer ride they contribute to the suspension is out weighed
by the improved handling.
Now for something completely different. The silly answers.
We know what you are thinking(cause
we are psychotic) And this is what you are thinking, if you have
a brain:
You don't have MY car listed!!!
What's the matter with you jerks?
Are you sure this is all there is?
Yup, this is it.
Energy Suspension does not make poly bushings
for every car, just the ones they want to.
The only reason some of these cars are even listed,
is because the bushings were designed for another
car and they just happen to fit the models listed.
Energy Suspension(949)361-3935 can make
any bushing you want,
All they want is a good blank check, a car they
can tear apart and use for testing, and an order for 10,000 or
more bushings,
and they will be glad to make any bushing
you want.
or, shhh,
for you
paranoid conspiracy types, this is the real secret
fantasy explanation:
All the bushings are made of a very expensive and rare material called Unobtainium.
Only one size bushing is available, because these special Unobtainium
bushings will magically change there shape and density to fit any
application.
They were developed for all cars & trucks,
and are stored in a secret government underground vault,
but you can't have them, because no one likes you(and
you're ugly, too).
They know that you know, and you know they know, that no one
really knows,
a secret government agency and the UFOs conspired to make the rubber bushings
on your car wear out.
Their star cruisers emit toxic amounts of ozone from the exhaust ports into our atmosphere,
every time they visit us. The ozone makes the rubber deteriorate.
It's all because they don't like you. They are
watching you right now.
Don't turn around. Turn off the computer and go hide under
your bed.
There is no hope for you, because you are a loser, and so is
your car.
Remember: try to
forget.
Can these, what do they call themselves?
'Human', Cap'n.
Can these 'humans' self regenerate?
No sir, the sigh coder says 'nadda'. But they can regurgitate, watch this.
Ehew, yuck You got that stuff all over my blue suede shoes. Lick it off now, or you're in big trouble.
Yes sir, capt' sir. Is that better.
No, lets get back to the ship. Hottie, four to beam up,
and don't let my fuzzy dice touch the
surface of this planet. Be careful, they're sensitive.
Mine would be too, if ...
I'm not touching those, he can carry his own fuzzy dice.
Yeah look, they're still wet.
Hey Cap'n, we're carrying to much
already. You'll have to handle your own fuzzy dice.
Oh, all right. I will just
sit here and pet them for a little while. ouuuu
YOU WILL NOT DISCUSS THIS WITH ANYONE, WE ARE WATCHING YOU.
The answers are out there, you just have to imagine them.

So, you need to order
sway bar frame bushings?
Be sure to measure the diameter of the sway
bar before calling us.
Don't ask someone on the internet, your sister
or your mother.
If you
are asking yourself: Why do I have to measure the diameter of
the sway bar, anyway? Are you stupid or something. Because I
told you to!
Accuracy is important here. Do it right or don't' even bother.
Do I have to hold your hand for everything.
Here is the real answer:
The sway bar could have been changed by a previous owner, or the
person who installs the sway bar at the factory, might have installed
an incorrect size
(sometimes, they are drinking al-ke-haul or doing drugs
or something, and they forget which sway bar, belongs on the vehicle,
they are building that day).
Or the manufacturer offered an optional
sway bar diameter that we or Energy Suspension are not aware of.
Grab a caliper,
this is the best
or an adjustable wrench(crescent wrench), tighten the jaws over the sway bar and measure across the jaws of the wrench.
or grab a hand full of open wrenches, see which one fits
onto the sway bar, tightly. Now read the measurement on the
wrench, this is the diameter.
Here is some technical language stuff:
Diameter(this is the one we want)= the thickness of the
sway bar, or the cross sectional area, not the circumference .
The Circumference is bad = distance around the bar.
Or, it could be that those
blasted UFOs changed the sway bar diameter, with their metal displacement
ray gun.
Don't you just hate it, when they do that.
PRODUCT WEIGHT
is now included in the charts above.
1.2# means that the part number listed weighs 1 pound & 2 tenths
of a pound.
We are giving this measurement, because this is how Energy Suspension
has chosen to give us the weight of each part number.
1 Pound(lb.or #) = 16 ounces(oz.) divided by 10 = 1.6 oz.
This is not the shipping weight, just the weight of the part.
To estimate your shipping cost, you should round up to the next pound
and usually add about a pound for shipping weight.
When we ship via UPS(United Parcel Service) we have to round up to the next pound.
UPS does not accept ounce weight, or increments of tenths.
We will always weigh your order on an electronic scale and charge
you for the exact weight, rounded up to the next pound.
For USPS(United States Postal Service) shipping we also round up to the next pound.
