The Lightning

First manufactured in 1993, the SVT Ford Lightning sported a 5.8L V8 engine with performance GT40 cylinder heads, this combination was also used in the 5.0 Mustang Cobra. While this pickup was obviously designed to rival sports cars with its speed and power, the details such as sway bar bushings and end links weren't upgraded to withstand this dramatic increase in horsepower. When the OE bushings and end links eventually wear out this leaves the sway bar loose, as a result, your steering can be harshly affected and the sway bar is left to knock into and damage other chassis parts, like your control arms. We here at DST know that a control arm is an expensive thing to replace, so we make sure to stock the part that will keep you from having to!

HyperFlex Polyurethane for the Ford Lightning Sway Bar

The 4.5188 is designed specifically for the 1999 - 2004 SVT Ford Lightning. Using Energy Suspension's Hyperflex polyurethane instead of the OE rubber, this set of front sway bar bushings and end links are much more durable than the OE. The sway bar bushings keep the sway bar in place and with Energy Suspension's polyurethane, these bushings give your sway bar the performance of a larger bar! Along with the sway bar bushings, the 4.5188 has two complete end links to ensure your sway bar stays connected to the control arms, but not close enough to damage them.

Installation and Measurement

The sway bar bushings in 4.5188 are designed to not only keep the sway bar firmly in place, but they are also easy to install. Energy Suspension makes its sway bar bushings with a split in the side so that the installer can just slip it over the bar. After tightening the brackets, this gap will disappear. Be sure to measure your sway bar just to make sure that these bushings are in fact the correct size. This can be done easily with a set of calipers or a crescent wrench and ruler.
