Prothane Leaf Spring and Shackle Bushings

Vehicles with a leaf spring and shackle set up lean heavily on the springs to take the shock out of a bump. Not only does a leaf spring reduce the force of a bump that you feel, but it also evenly distributes the load across the chassis instead of the whole load pressing down on one point. Your ability to get to point A to point B without scraping the pavement is heavily dependent on the leaf spring and shackle bushings which mount the spring to the frame.

Prothane's polyurethane is a stronger material for the mounting points of a leaf spring and shackle. Polyurethane leaf spring bushings are able to handle the stress from the suspension, and is not vulnerable to road grime. With Prothane's polyurethane, you can protect your vehicle's ability to carry a load, and your bumpy free ride, for years to come.

Replacing the Faulty Rubber

O.E. leaf spring and shackles utilize a soft rubber bushing to mount the spring to the frame. The rubber is great for reducing the noise and vibrations from being transferred into the cab. Unfortunately, rubber bushings have a short lifespan. Once the rubber fails, due to wear and tear or road grime, a leaf spring's effectiveness is severely reduced. Meaning you will experience a very bumpy ride, the vehicle's ability to carry a load or tow is hindered greatly and you'll experience a loss of control.

Use Prothane's Super Grease

Leaf spring and shackle bushings handle a lot of stress from the vehicle load, so be sure to use the supplied Prothane's Super Grease to lubricate the bushings during installation. Its super important that you lubricate each bushing well to prevent any squeaking. If you'd like some extra grease just in case, pick up an extra 3 pack.

Made well, very nice fit, easy to install. Noticeably better ride. These don't transmit any vibrations at all.

Hi Graham Prothane makes an excellent product but their weak point is the very vague instructions with their products. I made one phone call to them for this kit and I have used/installed several other kits of theirs. They must know that the majority of their products are being installed in home garages and not in the local dealership. All around a good product. the most troubling part of this install was the removal of existing bushings. PC
5 out of 5 - I would rate the kit #11007 (red) 9 out of 10.

Product Reviews for Prothane Rear Leaf Spring Bushings

Holding up fine, as they should. The car is not a daily driver but when I do drive it, I do drive it. Your product does what they are supposed to do and they last better than anything else I have found on the market.

Everything is still working great. I had to take them to a shop with a lift to get them installed, but other than that, everything is as promised.

My truck is a 1987 GMC V2500 with heavy O.E. springs. Be aware that this model requires a bushing kit with 3 different diameter bushing sets per spring. Aftermarket Suspension Parts went to the effort of pulling a kit and confirming the sizes before mailing it. Nice customer service as I had already returned a set to a different vendor that had wrong diameters even though it was listed for the truck. Product catalogs were no help as they didnt specify the differences. Easy install, you just need a torch to remove the original bushing dowels. The supplied kit could have used more than one tube of install grease. Two thumbs up!
5 out of 5 - Good Item, easy install.

My 71 F-100 still had the original bushing in the rear. After Installing these bushing the ride quality and handling is greatly improved. \n
5 out of 5 - Great parts

Did not install. Have a 23 year old Toyota Pickup. After reading reviews I decided there is a reason the factory uses rubber. Mine lasted 23 year and still have life. For daily driving, rubber is more compliant and wont squeak. Im sure the urethane are better under extreme stress like off-roading, but for most apps Ive decided to stick with the bushings installed in the spring. Editors Note: It is very important to use the Prothane Super Grease. The outside of the bushing should be lubricated to aid with installation. The inside of the bushing where the sleeve rotates needs the most grease. The sleeve rotates inside the poly bushing. When not greased the bushing will squeak. \n

These bushings fill a need not provided by any other company. Chrysler made 2 different front spring eye sizes and 2 different bolt sizes. I was able to use the parts combination I had with these bushings. Thank you!
5 out of 5 - Good service and price.

They are still holding up very well and they have been put to the test on the drag strip almost every week during the racing season. In my opinion a very good product.
