  • Moog fulfills their warranty through their individual dealers. That means that in order to receive warranty support, you will have to refer back to the original dealer you purchased the part from. Be sure to check the dealer's warranty support before you buy the part to make sure that they will properly support the warranty. If a dealer will only refer you back to the manufacturer in order to receive warranty support, then you may not actually have any warranty at all.

Replace the Ball Joint, not the Knuckle

Chances are good that if you are reading this then your Honda Element is having some issues while turning. This is almost certainly due to worn out ball joints and while the original ball joints on your Element can be removed, Honda doesn't offer an OE replacement ball joint except in a new knuckle assembly. If you don't like the idea of paying to replace several parts that are working fine then you'll need an aftermarket ball joint like Moog's K500004.

Moog introduced their Problem Solver ball joints to provide a better than OE solution for flawed original designs, like the lack of an individual ball joint replacement for the Element. Moog's Problem Solvers also include some premium features that set it apart from other replacement options.

Problem Solver Improvements

  • Individual Replacement - This ball joint can be placed into the old steering knuckle, so you don't have to buy a whole new one.
  • Metal Gusher Bearing - Moog also includes a Metal gusher bearing that is more durable than your average OE Element ball joint. The bearing is porous so grease can flow freely, keeping the ball stud lubricated.
  • Knurled Housing - This ball joint features a knurled housing that will help it fit snugly into the steering knuckle and acts like a grip to help the joint stay in place.
  • Heat-Treated Stud - The Moog Problem Solver ball joint features a stud that is specially heat-treated to be harder on the outside and just a little bit softer on the inside. So instead of snapping in an accident like an OE stud could, Moog's Problem Solver will bend allowing you some control when you need it most.

K500004 easy installation

OE Knuckle and Installation

Due to the design of the OE steering knuckle, Moog crafted the K500004's contact surface to allow for both an easier installation and a more secure fit. The OE steering knuckle must be removed in order to get the old ball joint out. Once this has been done the tricky part is getting the old ball joint out of the steering knuckle, the OE design has very little clearance between the knuckle and ball joint. After that, the K500004 can be installed into the steering knuckle using a suitable press tool.

So, if you're looking for a lower ball joint replacement, but don't want to pay 3X more for the whole knuckle assembly, then check out Moog's Problem Solver ball joint for the Honda Element.
