Axle Pivot Bushings - Ford F250 - Prothane 6601

Axle Pivot Bushings | Ford F250

On most Fords pickups from the years 1980-1997, like the Ford F250, the front axles are made up of two separate i-beams. These twin i-beams allow the wheel to move up and down because of the axle pivot bushing. The bushing is the connecting at the end of each I beam to the frame of the vehicle allowing for free vertical movement along the pivot angle. If these bushings started to fail, the suspension would start to make noises, the metal of the frame and the I-beams would scrape together and wear down, and the suspension would also start to sag. These Prothane 6601 Axle Pivot Bushings can replace worn out original bushings and keep the twin i-beams in place to allow smooth movement and balance of the vehicle's axle.

Old Rubber Bushing

Old Factory Rubber Bushings.

Vehicles that utilize the i-beams layout, like the Ford F250, are usually trucks and other vehicles that are known for going offroad, which can cause a large amount of strain on them. Rubber bushings can absorb more vibrations from the vehicle but are not as durable as polyurethane. When they hollow out and start to wear down, the beams could become loose and start to rattle, sag, and give an uneven wear to the tires.. If the i-beams were to lose their support, the strain would fall on other parts like the coil springs lower the camber of the wheels, and mess up the wheel alignment.

What can this part do to help?

These bushings from Prothane are made out of polyurethane, a material that is resilient to vibrations, heat, motor chemicals, road salts and overall strain. The vehicles that these bushings fit on have been around for a while so if you still have the original rubber bushings, it may be best to replace them because they might be deteriorated. While polyurethane is not as good at absorbing vibrations as rubber, it can last the life of the vehicle and hold the axles in place better. These polyurethane parts are covered by Prothane's lifetime warranty because of their confidence in their durability. These bushings will connect the i-beams to the frame and keep the driver safe from major suspension problems.

So, if you are looking for a set of bushings that can support your vehicles twin i-beam suspension for a long time, pick up a set of Prothane 6601 Axle Pivot Bushings today!

I was more disappointed in myself for not reading the description than in the product. Your product has no outer steel part. I could not reuse the original as it had to be chiseled out. Never used your product and ending up putting in a complete bushing from the part store. Editors Note: A lot of the Prothane bushings the OEM outer shell is left in the I Beam or control arm and the rubber is burned out. Be sure to read the instructions or call 888-406-2330 or email us at sales@suspension.com.

starstarstarstarstar" After some weeks of running these, I have an even better impression of their quality. "

Compared to the stock bushings, these were relatively easy to install. The trick was figuring out how to remove the core of the stock bushings. Using a socket, threaded rod, and a few washers and nuts, I removed the metal sleeve, then was able to dig out the rubber with a stiff screw driver and hammer. Then, it was simple. Great product! Works great. Better than stock all around. Easy to replace in future if needed. Why didnt Ford do this to begin with?
