Urethane to Rubber Primer
This primer can be used to prepare rubber surfaces to bond with liquid urethane or to prepare metal surfaces to bond with liquid urethane when used with a Urethane to Metal Adhesive.
Urethane is a popular medium used in a lot of DIY applications and many times it needs to be bonded to something. A vibration isolator is one common use and in those cases your urethane will only be as strong as the bond between the objects. If you have a project planned that requires bonding liquid urethane to rubber or metal then you should check out this primer.
Binding Rubber to Urethane
There are many uses for urethane and our DIY Liquid Urethane Kits are really popular for fabricators or folks that have some pretty off the wall projects. Our urethane motor mount insert process would greatly benefit by using this primer to prepare the inside of voided rubber motor mounts to be filled with liquid urethane.
Any application method that gives you a uniform coating can be used, such as a roller coating, brushing, or dipping and the primer can also be diluted for use in a spray. The 4oz can of primer has a coverage of roughly 8 square feet (one gallon will cover about 265 sq. ft.) and the coating should be 0.5 to 1 mil thick to be most effective. Take a look at the data sheet for more instruction and be sure to read the safety data sheet before using the primer.
Priming Metal Surfaces for Urethane
The primer can be used by itself for binding urethane to rubber, but it also primes clean metal surfaces in preparation for a urethane to metal adhesive, and you can use both the primer and adhesive together in a kit. This will ensure a tight bond with metals such as...
- Cast Iron
- Stainless Steel
- Aluminum
- Brass
- Zinc
- and More
So when it is imperative that you have a strong metal-to-urethane bond, make sure you consider using the primer and adhesive together.
